About the Volcano
San Francisco Volcano, 6,018 m, one of the most accessible six-thousanders in the Atacama Puna, rises on the border between Argentina and Chile, surrounded by salt flats, high-altitude deserts, and impressive peaks.
Its ascent route, of moderate difficulty, makes it an excellent choice for those taking their first steps on mountains over 6,000 meters.
Despite its approachable nature, it requires acclimatization, proper preparation, and the guidance of professional mountaineering guides to ensure a safe and unforgettable experience in the heart of the Andes.


About the Volcano
Day 1: Meet in Fiambalá and transfer to refuge (3,000–3,300 m).
Day 2: Ascent of Cerro Cortaderas (3,860 m), 4–5 hours of activity.
Day 3: Transfer to Refugio La Gruta (4,030 m), afternoon free for acclimatization.
Day 4: Ascent of Cerro Falso Morocho (4,500 m).
Day 5: Ascent of Volcán Bertrand (5,285 m), 5 hours up and 3 hours down.
Day 6: Rest and acclimatization at La Gruta.
Day 7: Summit of San Francisco Volcano and descent to Fiambalá (~10–12 hours of activity).
